Four-ball at Ilkley Golf Club for four
Description
- For four guests
Tee-off on this par 69 /par 73, 6,276-yard course amidst the majesty of Ilkley Moor and the tranquility of the River Wharfe. With Ryder Cup Captains Colin Montgomerie and Mark James, and Walker Cup Captain Rodney Foster among its membership, you might just tee-off in esteemed company, as well.
Ilkley Golf Course is in fact where Colin Montgomery honed his early skills as a Junior. He now holds the course record of 64 and has said that “Ilkley Golf Club will always have a special place in my heart.”
This favourite of legends is known for playing fair, thus offering a true test to scratch players and newcomers alike. The opening six holes unusually include three par threes and two par fives. The third hole, contained on an island created by a spur in the River Wharfe, was said to be the favourite par three of Open winner Sir Henry Cotton. The fourth hole, a par five, demands a drive over the Wharfe’s tributary.
After encountering the test of the river’s winding path, your four-ball will meet the fir and pine-lined back nine. Three of these holes were designed by Alistair MacKenzie and feature his trademark sloping greens. Other renowned golf course designers to put their architectural stamp on Ilkley include Harry Colt and James Braid; experience how their combined visions have created a course of unique terrain and layout.
The third oldest club in Yorkshire, Ilkley offers the perfect opportunity for you and three guests to challenge yourselves on a course steeped in history and surrounded by beauty.
